CANNES FILM FESTIVAL: BEST SCREENPLAY FOR A TOUCH OF SIN BY JIA ZHANG-KE!

Chinese director Jia Zhang-Ke has been awarded with Best Screenplay at the 66^th Cannes Film Festival for A Touch of Sin (天注定). The film with four intertwined stories, is based on real events in China. It depicts a fast-changing modern China and the social violences that result. It is the first time that the director is awarded in Cannes, after previously two films in competition, 24 City (in competition at Cannes in 2008) and I Wish I Knew (Un Certain Regard in 2010). MK2 deals with the international sales of all the three feature films.

MK2 represents the Franco-Israeli film A Strange Course of Events by Raphaël Nadjari, to be showcased during the Directors’ Fortnight. Raphaël Nadjari already presented at the Directors’ Fortnight in 2002 with Appartement #5C, international rights also handled by MK2.

MK2 handles international sales for A Touch of Sin 天注定, the first Chinese film in competition at the Cannes Film Festival since three years. The film is directed by Jia Zhang-ke, described by the New Yorker as « Simply one of the best and most important directors in the world ». MK2 holds the rights outside of China and Japan. It represents also his films 24 City (in competition at Cannes in 2008) and I Wish I Knew (Un Certain Regard in 2010).

LAURENCE ANYWAYS WINS NEW AWARDS AT SARASOTA FILM FESTIVAL

Laurence Anyways by Xavier Dolan took home the Narrative Feature Jury Prize at the ceremony of the 2013 Sarasota Film Festival.

Leading Canadian actress Suzanne Clément received the World Cinema Award for her performance in the film.
